From practice to scalable solution
Within this research project, we are developing an innovative solution that heats accommodations and sanitary facilities in the tourism sector in a sustainable way. Not only the technical aspects are examined, but also the feasibility and efficiency of different systems. MNEXT combines this knowledge and technology in a digital twin—a digital model of the energy management at Camping Olmenveld.
With this digital twin, we can perform simulations and investigate how the developed solutions are scalable and applicable at other locations. This means that campsites, holiday parks and other tourism companies in the Netherlands and beyond can benefit from the insights from this project.

Impact: a sustainable future for tourism
The results of this research contribute to the broader energy transition within the tourism sector. Through smart modelling and simulations, entrepreneurs can make better-informed choices and switch to a sustainable energy supply that is not only environmentally friendly, but also economically feasible. Camping Olmenveld serves as a practical example for other locations that want to take this step.
With this project, we accelerate the transition to a fossil-free tourism sector and contribute to a sustainable future.
The project ‘Energy transition camping Olmenveld and Ons Buiten’ has a total budget of €2.8 million and is co-financed by the European Union and the Province of Zeeland.
