Our society is becoming increasingly dependent on energy. The depletion of fossil energy sources compels us to search for sustainable alternatives. The Smart Energy professorship, led by Professor Jack Doomernik, contributes to this development.
Research at the Smart Energy professorship focuses on energy conservation and the integration of sustainable sources into our energy system. The emphasis is on technological developments that can contribute to these objectives.
The Smart Energy professorship has three research lines:
Measure & Know: provides consumers, businesses, and governments with more insight into their energy consumption, enabling them to make informed decisions about their energy management.
Integrate & Connect: integrates decentralized sustainable energy sources with a non-controllable supply pattern, such as solar and wind, and conversion and storage systems into the existing energy infrastructure. This applies both in and around buildings, in neighborhoods, on industrial estates, and in the industry. The goal is to make the energy system more sustainable.
Consume Less & Produce: focuses on opportunities to facilitate energy-efficient behavior and the use of sustainable energy by consumers, businesses, and governments through technical tools. The aim is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable energy management.
What does the Smart Energy professorship offer?
The Smart Energy professorship conducts practice-oriented research for and with external partners, actively involving students whenever possible. We also provide interesting opportunities for minors, internships, and thesis assignments, which can be found on our website. If you have a practical question within one of our research themes, please reach out to us. We will collaborate to explore how we can address the question and assess the possibilities of obtaining funding. We are always interested in enthusiastic teachers who want to conduct research with our professorship and have available hours for this purpose. If you are interested, please get in touch with us.
