Circulaire tenten voor noodhulp

MNEXT is joining forces in this SIA-KIEM CE project with the Avans research group “New Materials and Their Applications,” humanitarian partner Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and emergency relief product developer Wijnroemer Relief Goods (WRG) to find a solution. Relief organizations are acutely aware of how resource depletion and CO2 emissions negatively impact vulnerable communities in low-income countries. Consequently, there is a growing desire among humanitarian organizations and suppliers to place a strong emphasis on the circularity of relief goods.

SDG's

End-of-Life Solutions

In this project, we are developing a practical decision-making framework for tents. This framework will enable well-informed product choices for circular end-of-life solutions, with material selection playing a key role. The project partners bring essential expertise in procurement, design, material properties, and circularity.

Our Contribution

Researchers from the “New Materials” research group have been collaborating with WRG and MSF to improve emergency aid for some time. This collaboration is now being expanded to include researchers from the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoE BBE). One of the researchers involved in this project, Alexander Compeer, explains:
> “Our contribution to this project lies in our knowledge of the relevant criteria for making products and processes more sustainable. Additionally, our expertise in assessing the environmental effects and impacts of materials and processes is highly valuable. We apply insights gained from previous projects to this endeavor.”
